Close Encounters of an Aurora Borealis kind

April 04, 2015  •  Leave a Comment

With the recent spate of now well known solar flares producing some spectacular

images of the Aurora Borealis off the North Coasts of everywhere , I thought I

should really investigate and with always having an interest in the night sky, I did just that.

With a late call made after the spectacular St Patricks day display I made my way north

with fingers crossed and warm clothes at the ready - to be greeted by darkness.... ......

Wonderful darkness and clear skies ...but no visible  Aurora ! So with the capacity of

modern digital SLR`s I set up and took a test shot ..and discovered a wonderful display

in progress - just beyond the human eyes ability to see. So a number of shots were taken

to produce a composite shot of the larger skies and the display of colours that the Aurora was

producing....I feel this could become a bit more than a minor thing in the coming months and

years .
